Smooth Away the Years

Cosmetic BOTOX is a safe and effective product to create a younger-looking appearance with little to no downtime.  Treat the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming.

BOTOX is an FDA-approved injectable product that reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles in the forehead, between the eyebrows, around the eyes, and more. When we form certain facial expressions (raising our eyebrows, frowning, or squinting, for example), lines naturally appear on our faces. Over time, these lines become etched into our skin and stick around even when our expressions are neutral.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX blocks the release of a substance called acetylcholine, interrupting the signals telling specific muscles to contract. This allows the overlying skin to relax and creates a smoother, younger-looking appearance.

BOTOX relaxes wrinkles caused by repeated facial expressions over time. A few of the most common treatment areas include:

  • Glabellar lines between the eyebrows

  • Horizontal forehead lines

  • Crow’s feet at the outer corners of the eyes

BOTOX can also be used to create a slimmer face shape and relieve TMJ symptoms when injected into the masseter (jaw) muscle.

If you have deeper folds or wrinkles on your face, you may get better results with dermal fillers. These injectable gels add volume below the skin to lift and smooth nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and add youthful volume where you need it. Many people combine these with BOTOX for an even more rejuvenating result.

Who is the best candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX works on patients of all ages! Younger patients, aged 20-30 years, have learned of the benefits of small doses of preventative BOTOX, so that skin creases will not become permanent over the years. Patients 40-100 years old can benefit from the softening effect of BOTOX. Both men and women can have a smoother, younger-looking face with BOTOX.

BOTOX can also be used in some areas that you might not realize:

  • Forehead, neck and shoulders to treat migraines

  • Eyelids to treat spasm (blepharospasm)

  • Trapezius muscles for knots and tension (and a slimmer neckline!)

  • Masseter muscle (deep in the cheek) to treat TMJ (and slim your jawline!)

  • Bladder (through a camera called a cystoscope) to reduce urinary frequency, urgency, and leakage

  • Vaginal muscles to treat hypertonic pelvic floor, which causes pain and difficulty with intercourse

How is BOTOX performed?

The consultation is the most important part of a BOTOX procedure. You and your provider can decide where you want softening effects, and how many units you will need to achieve this result. BOTOX is injected with a very slim needle, like an insulin needle, so there is minimal discomfort.

Treatment time only takes 10-15 minutes.

There is no special preparation before a BOTOX treatment. Afterwards, you should stay upright for 4-6 hours; you do not want your BOTOX to migrate to other areas which can cause unwanted side effects. We also recommend:

  • No exercise or long walks for 4-6 hours.

  • Do not touch or massage injected areas for 24 hours.

  • Do not exfoliate or use scrub brushes on treated areas for 24 hours.

  • No air travel for 24 hours.

  • No wearing hats for 24 hours.

  • Do not wash or blow-dry your hair for 4-6 hours.

  • No showers for 4-6 hours.

  • Do not schedule a massage for 24 hours.

BOTOX begins to take effect in 3-5 days. You may need a touch-up dose after 2 weeks. BOTOX lasts for approximately 3-4 months.
